![]() 17" Vintage Wheel Works V40's with sticky street ribber are the front runners right now. I'm thinking about using a Currie crate 9" with the Ride Tech 4-link and trying to decide on wheels. Classic Industries offers a wide selection of Seat Shelf Insulation and Sound Deadeners for your 1969 Pontiac Firebird. , or rebuild the 455 and maybe use the M20 that is sitting on the shelf ($11-12,000 for a Kaufmann 515hp turn-key motor). With a little more work and not much more money, this is a 25,000 car. Door panels, rear sails and package shelf in great condition. The big questions right now are whether to go with an LS3 and Tremec 1969 Pontiac Firebird, rare find - V8 matching numbers, automatic transmission, non factory Trans Am, with original panels and floors. I have a Wilwood 6-piston front brake kit waiting on the shelf as well. The subframe is now getting a Ride Tech stage 2 kit with coil overs, muscle bar, and TruTrun installed. ![]() The Trans Am Repro hood, spoiler, and fender extractors have also been heavily massaged to get the fit just right. I also fitted the windshield trim to the new roof and filled any gaps with All Metal filler. I filled the seams between various body panels with weld and filler rod. Then I decided to replace the roof and lower filler panel due to rust pitting from a previous vinyl top. ![]() So far I have stripped and reprimed with SPI white epoxy. Forgot to mention as well, the exhaust tips are made from aluminum tubing.I covered some of the body work that has taken place over the last 4 years (only 2 years behind schedule now) in a previous thread: On my bench and shelf it's not real bad and hardly noticeable, but the art board I use as a base in my pictures has a warp to it and makes the gap is more pronounced unfortunately. Of note, you may notice it looks like the left front tire is getting some air.it is. Thanks for looking and any comments and questions. ![]() She's no where near my best work, but I am proud of it nonetheless. I really dig the late 70's-80's vibe it's got to it. Even with this kit being as marginal as it is, I'm glad to have finally brought it to the bench and get it completed. Along with adding BMF to the trim, that's about it noteworthy. I didn't like the way it looked, so I carefully filed it down a bit to a more pleasing to the eye shape, and repainted the reshaped surface accordingly. Oh yeah, then there's that goofy half circle chin spoiler. Not real happy with how low the headers (from the Revell 67 Chevelle PS) hang down but I can live with them. Since there's really nothing going on at all under the hood of this kit I didn't do any of my normal wiring. It was just the bare block & heads so I had to scavenge for all the other parts to go with it. Your package tray in your 1967, 1968 or 1969 Firebird is the protective paneling that sits in your Pontiac covering the metal underneath. Not sure what kit the motor was from, it was molded in orange (maybe the MPC 69 Camaro convertible?). 1967-1969 Firebird 6-Speed Transmission Conversion Kit, Tremec T56 Magnum, 5,024.99. The 400 that comes with it was missing, so while I didn't have a spare Pontiac engine I did find what looked to be a Chevy 396-427 so I figured why not go with that, being not out of the realm of what may have happened to some of the real ones back in the day. I didn't go crazy on it, just a good cleaning and a light polish. ![]() So freshening up the paint was my first order of business. I remember it sitting mocked together on a shelf for some time so it had collected a fair bit of dust and stuff. He had painted the body and added the stripes, as well as picking out the wheels/tires, but that was really about it. This was one of my Dad's kits that he had started back sometime in the early 1990's and never finished. As mediocre at best as this kit is, I wanted to finally add it to my completed list. ![]()
